Enhance your photography with Creative Look: Raisa Azzam
Expand your range of creative expression within your Sony camera by using the Creative Look feature to establish a preferred mood and tone in your photos and videos.
The Creative Look feature offers ten unique presets comprising combinations of colour tones, contrast, brightness and sharpness that can significantly enhance your creativity. This feature saves you the hassle of editing in post and is also an excellent choice for those who want to maintain a consistent look in their photos and videos while posting on social media.
This article focuses on the Creative Look feature’s VV2 preset. This preset produces clear images with bright, vivid hues to draw attention to a subject in portraitures.
Raisa Azzam, a Malaysian fashion photographer, has picked VV2 as her Creative Look. Due to her profession, she is continuously dealing with colours that are either vibrant, deep or saturated. As a result, the VV2 preset truly helps bring out the vigour in her photos which complements them very nicely.
Another factor Raisa is particularly drawn to is that VV2 enhances an already completed shot that she has created behind the scenes by producing a solid boost to the colours in the image, instantly elevating the quality of her work.
“The feeling I want my photos to give off…I try my best to get [them] to come off strong and have your eyes drawn to it.”
Below is a quick Q&A with Raisa:
What vibe do you want to give off in your photos?
I love having my photos give off either a dynamic or dramatic look; that doesn’t necessarily always mean that the poses have to be quite literally spirited, but just within the mood, colours and context.
What do you usually look out for when posing your subjects?
I always think about the mood or feeling I’m going for when posing my subjects— do I want them still and sullen, or do I want them to have a dynamic and vibrant personality? When I first started shooting, I loved making my subjects move, jump and dance around. Now, I’m a little more organised when planning out their poses, so I can still offer a dramatic mood with a still subject.
How do you scout for shooting locations and how does the location you have chosen tie in with the VV2 preset?
I want the colours in my photos to stand out and make a statement with the VV2 preset. Therefore, I feel that shooting against light-coloured backdrops won’t fully utilise the full advantage of the Creative Look feature. I constantly strive to scout for locations that consist of rich, brilliant colours (e.g. coloured backdrops, the sea, greenery, the deep blue sky) so that I may push the limits of the VV2 preset to achieve the desired look for my photos.
In a nutshell, as a photographer, what Raisa finds most appealing about the Creative Look feature is that it provides her with the freedom to shoot on the go and experiment with various moods and styles with her subjects. Furthermore, it also has the ability to instantaneously create the results she wants without the need to edit them post-production.
Raisa has also put together a slideshow of her work featured in this article, complete with the various settings she applied in each photo.
