I have been a fan of Sony cameras even before I started to share food photography on social media. I really enjoy capturing every moment with the Alpha 7C as it is a lightweight full-frame camera that I can bring everywhere I go."

Here’s what you’ll need

1. Your Alpha 7C   2. FE 40mm F2.5 G (SEL40F25G)    3. FE 24mm F2.8 G (SEL24F28G)

Here are some of my favourite features of the Alpha 7C that comes in handy for food photography:

1. Convenient flip-out screen

I really enjoy the Alpha 7C’s flip out screen as I like to use it to take flatlays and low angle photos. I can flip the screen to view and no longer am required to step on a small stool to take the perfect flatlay shot.

2. Low light photography

Sometimes it is not easy to capture photos in cafes where there is limited source of light. Luckily, the large sensor and ability to shoot at high ISO allows the Alpha 7C to perform well in low light.

3. Use grid line

You can set the grid line in the camera setting to use the rule of thirds grid. This is extremely helpful in composing photos. Just place the focal subject along the gridlines to get better compositions. It is also good to align and prevent slanted photos, especially when taking flatlays or cafe environments.

4. Custom white balance

It is important to get the right white balance when taking photos of food. The food looks better in a warmer tone. Sometimes the camera's default white balance might not show the object naturally. Hence, you can adjust the colour by setting a custom white balance in the white balance menu. I prefer to adjust my colour temperature manually by using the Kelvin Scale. From there, I will toggle with my camera dial until I find a warm tone that strikes my fancy.

5. Use Imaging Edge Mobile

It is handy to utilise the Imaging Edge Mobile app to take photos on a tripod. I can use it as a remote to control my camera and import the photos directly to my phone. There was one time I forgot to bring my memory card, I used this app to connect my phone to take photos. Voila, all the photos are stored inside my phone without a memory card!

Extra Tips

A camera is a tool to help us capture beautiful photos. There are more customised menus to adjust to suit your photography needs, such as choosing the ideal aperture, shutter speed or ISO.
