Creative inspirations, equipment selection
Children grow up quickly, so it's great to have a camera around to capture every stage of their life - as they grow, play and live their best lives. I trust my Sony Alpha 7C camera, along with my favourite lenses - the Sonnar T* FE 55mm F1.8 ZA prime lens and the FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS zoom lens - to record and remember precious moments from my daughter's life, every day.
Gain flexibility with a zoom lens
Sometimes, when you're out with children, opportunities for great shots just happen to show up - and you'll want your camera (and lens) ready when it happens. That's what zoom lenses are great for, they bring flexibility to your shots and also lighten your equipment load, as you can choose to pack only one lens with you for an entire outing.
One lens, many focal lengths
I enjoy travelling light, and that's why I sometimes just take the FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS zoom lens with me. With a focal length that ranges from 24mm to 105MM, this lens allows me to take shots in various situations and locations, without needing to change lenses.
And the benefit of this, is that I get more time to compose my shots - which, when photographing active children, is very helpful.
Incredible clarity, up close or from far away
I appreciate the level of clarity that the FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS delivers, at every zoom level. As you'll see in this shots featuring my daughter, Yue Er - whether it's a long shot of Yue Er in a forested area, or a more intimate shot of Yue Er and her mum, the scene (and subjects) are detailed and beautiful.
Another benefit of the FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS zoom lens is its quick autofocus, which keeps shots with lots of movement - like this one of Yue Er being carried into the air - clear and focused.
Fleeting memories that last a lifetime
When photographing children, I always emphasise naturalness - that's why I discourage staged photos, as children often look stiff (both in terms of their body language and facial expressions) when they're being asked to pose.
To fully capture a child's joyful, free-spirited nature, let them have fun playing their favourite games and activities! With the right camera and lenses, you'll be able to capture - and reminisce on - these fleeting moments for a lifetime.
