Bottle 360, a breathtaking short film by veteran cinematographer Ayannanka Bose, chronicles a plastic bottle's journey, reminding us of how our impact on the environment will come back full circle. What transpired from a misplaced toss into a trash bin has led the bottle across various landscapes to the oceans and eventually, back to the person who disposed of it improperly. Filmed with the FX3, FX6 and FX9, Ayannanka shares more about his film and what he loves most about the Cinema Line cameras.

Top 3 Reasons Why Ayannanka Bose Loves Cinema Line Cameras

No matter the place, time or environment, Ayannanka believes that every aspect of the Cinema Line cameras is geared towards capturing visuals that stand out, bringing any filmmaker’s creative vision to fruition. Here are three aspects of the Cinema Line cameras that stand out most to him.

1. Electronic Variable Neutral Density (ND) Filter

Having had to struggle in a race against time to change filters on his camera lenses manually in the past, Ayannanka loves the Electronic Variable ND Filter on the FX6 and FX9 cameras, saying that it’s his “ultimate satisfaction”. This built-in electronic filter reduces the amount of light falling on the camera sensor without affecting colour, which aided Ayannanka in his quest to film ‘Bottle 360’ without the need for additional accessories. This is so that he can demonstrate how the Cinema Line cameras are capable of achieving his desired visual quality without having to swap lenses or filters.

2. Colour science

The S-Cinetone colour science, which is accessible on the FX3, FX6 and FX9 cameras, is a picture profile built to resemble the VENICE’s cinematic look. The optimised skin tones and colour quality has impressed Ayannanka so much that he would use the footage captured straight out of the camera for his films without the need for colour grading in post production.

“The beauty of Cinema Line cameras is that you’ll be able to capture the moment perfectly without having to worry too much about whether or not your ideas will translate well on the footage captured,” Ayannanka said. “I’m glad that Cinema Line cameras give me the peace of mind that what I film is what I will get. There’s no better reassurance for a cinematographer.”

3. One seamless cinematography system

Apart from getting stunning footage straight out of the camera, Ayannanka is enthralled by the colour space that the FX3, FX6 and FX9 share with the VENICE. This has allowed him to intercut these cameras between main scenes filmed with the VENICE to create one seamless film where the viewer can’t tell the difference in the quality of the footage captured. As such, Ayannanka has become bolder and more experimental with his filming techniques.

“Once, I had to shoot a scene of an actor on a bicycle,” Ayannanka recounted. “To get this shot, I couldn’t simply rig the heavy VENICE on the bicycle as that would make it too hard for the actor to manoeuvre. To solve this, I rigged the FX6 instead. He loved how light it was because he got to demonstrate his cycling style with ease and we got the shot that we needed.”

A Quick Q&A with Ayannanka Bose

What made you decide to create a film that touches on environmental issues, specifically how one’s actions impact the environment?

When I heard from the good folks at Sony that there would be a follow-up camera test for Cinema Line products once again this year, I thought to myself – since we already have to test the cameras to the limit, why not add a storyline to the video bearing an important social message to boot? With that in mind, we decided to bring the lovely concept that our director, Sagar Rao had written to life. I was hoping that the awareness raised with this film could make a difference while serving its main objective as a camera test.
