Hwan-soo’s take on the FE 20-70mm F4 G
It feels light… a necessary lens for someone like me who travels and walks a lot”

As a travel photographer, Hwan-soo recognises the importance of weight and convenience when shooting, and especially enjoys the inclusion of the 20mm focal distance as it fits well with his style of wide-angle shooting. Plus, with constant F4 aperture, there isn’t a trade-off in exposure when using different focal lengths. As he puts it, the combination of the FE 20-70mm F4 G with his Alpha 7 IV makes a light, high-performing pair. “It’s much more lightweight than carrying two lenses. I like that it is minimal.”
What makes the lens light is also what makes it ideal for shooting on the go. The FE 20-70mm F4 G achieves incredibly quick and quiet autofocus, a feature enabled by its two XD Linear Motors.
3 Reel Questions
How do you plan and put together your reels?
Most of my reels are shot in short bursts of the same composition. In this case, it does not require much planning and you can shoot a reel in the middle of taking a shot. For reels composed of various scenes, I tend to think of the transition between scenes ahead of time. Next is research. It’s good to plan in advance while watching videos and photos of the place you are travelling to.
What were the most memorable moments during your shoot?
I wanted to capture various scenes with authenticity and emotion across various angles of view from 20mm to 70mm. I tried to express it within the scene where the moon and model were shot together, which I feel is the most memorable. The 70mm view seems to have contained the emotions I had in mind before production.
Words of encouragement
To inspire others to capture the magnificence of scenery, Hwan-soo has some words of encouragement: “The best way is to take lots of pictures and videos. In particular, reels are easy to start with and generate great excitement.”
